Cecil Beaton

‘Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it-safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary.’

Cecil Beaton

Hi, I'm Dan Cooper, otherwise known as The Frustrated Gardener. Thank you for visiting my blog. I have loved plants and flowers since I was a child. My family tell me the first word I spoke was ‘Mesembryanthemum’, although that takes some believing. I grew up surrounded by gifted gardeners, eventually reading Landscape Management at the University of Reading. I now work in retail. The Frustrated Gardener is my way of expressing an all-consuming passion for plants and flowers, and a motivation to carry on exploring the wonders of nature.

I garden in Broadstairs, Kent, in a small plot by the sea. My specialist subject is coastal gardening, especially in mild, frost-free locations. I have a particular interest in plants from the Canary Islands and South Africa, and I will collect anything, given half a chance. I am also an avid book collector, with a growing collection housed in a custom-built library.

Why am I frustrated? Where shall I begin!? It’s mainly because the postage stamp space I have at my disposal constrains my poster-sized ambitions. I know I am not alone. Join me on my quest to make the most out of my small town garden and we’ll learn together along the way.

Loving this warm weather. Sweating it out repotting my ginger plants into huge tree tubs. They are whoppers!! #thewatchhouse #thefrustratedgardener #terrace #gardenfurniture #tulips #patio #gardensofinstagram #springday #workinghard
Summer’s here! For today at least. #vikingbay #broadstairs #lovethanet #blueskies #sunseasand #beachlife #harbour #kentlife #thanetriviera
I can’t believe the transformation in the Gin and Tonic Garden. The last picture, in the snow, was taken only a month ago. Today we got up to 24°C #thewatchhouse #ngsopengardens #thefrustratedgardener #patio #terrace #tulips #sunnyday #hardwork #satisfaction
Oh want a beautiful morning #vikingbay #broadstairs #kent #thanetlife #blueskies #sunseasand #harbour #beach #ohidoliketobebesidetheseaside
This ‘tutti-frutti’ colour-combination was not planned, but I really like it. The perfect antidote to winter. #thewatchhouse #thefrustratedgardener #tulips #hyacinths #daffodils #flowersofinstagram #gardensofinstagram #springflowers #happycoincidence #tuttifrutti #colourclash #colourcombination
Very impressed with Narcissus ‘Lemon Beauty’. I didn’t think I would be, and can’t recall why I chose it, but it’s quite lovely to look at and deliciously scented. Lemon Beauty is a Division 11, orchid flowering daffodil which carries slightly nodding flowers, hence my hand being in shot! #daffodils #narcissus #flowersofinstagram #bulbs #thewatchhouse #thefrustratedgardener #springishere
