It has been an exceptionally mild and sunny autumn here in the UK. Last weekend we enjoyed the warmest ever November day, with temperatures reaching 22.4 degrees centigrade in Wales. In Broadstairs we were not quite so blessed. Dense fog blocked out the sun all day on Sunday, but it was still warm and dry – perfect for planting bulbs. On Saturday we had enjoyed flawless autumn weather. As the sun rose it fell on the stems of Hedychium ‘Stephen’, filtering through the yellowing leaves and making the scarlett berries shine like glacé cherries. It was one of nature’s perfect little performances …. and this weekend is looking good for an encore.
