There have been precious few moments over the last week for composing wise words on gardening matters. I am not about to fob you off with something I’ve rushed, so will instead treat you to a vision of what a hot summer day looks like in this neck of the woods. In nine years of living in Broadstairs I have never witnessed the beach busier than it was yesterday, nor a more cosmopolitan mix of day-trippers. It was the perfect day to be beside the seaside, complete with fun fair, bouncy castle, Punch and Judy, ice creams and thieving seagulls. It would have been churlish of me not to participate, although I refused point-blank to spread my towel between the heaving mass of bodies on Viking Bay (above). Instead we walked along the sea defences to quieter Dumpton Gap (below), and joined other locals on a finger-nail of sand backed by colourful beach huts and towering white cliffs.
The weather is set fair for today, so we’ll be taking to the beach again for a gentle walk to Ramsgate, interspersed with blackberry picking and checking up on the agave at The Italianate Glasshouse. I hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend and look forward to getting back to some sort of normality next week.

After your week of intense training in negotiation skills I am sure you could persuade someone to move their beach towel a bit so you could settle into place!!! Have a great day!

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a photo of an English beach so I appreciated seeing these. I definitely like your idea of a little stroll to a quieter place though. Lovely weekend for you. Ours has been quiet because it has been cloudy, terribly humid, rainy and just dreary so that meant lots of errands and inside stuff. 🙂
Hi Judy. The weather turned after lunch and we had showers after all. Saved me a lot of watering time. I have so much inside stuff that needs doing – piles of paperwork everywhere. With the evening light diminishing I will soon have no excuse but to tackle it!
A wonderful example of the gifts that come when willing to walk, run, or climb a little more than the average adventurer.

Almost makes me want to be on the beach, even with all those people. Almost. (It’s raining hard here in Cambridge). Now I know I can go round the corner to Dumpton Gap though!
