In his famous poem “In Memoriam”, Lord Alfred Tennyson included the verse:
Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
As 2015 dawns who knows what Tennyson’s hoped for ‘truth’ might look like, but what’s for sure is that the year will be what we make it. A few moments ago The Frustrated Gardener attracted its 150,000th view. This was a little target I’d set for myself for 2014, but what difference does twelve hours make between friends? I don’t know very much about visualisation as a technique for attaining personal goals, but I’d rather aim high and risk disappointment than settle for mediocrity. I’d like to imagine that by the middle of 2016 I might have celebrated my 1,000,000th view. What a boost that would be. And if I don’t get there, I can be quite certain I’ll have had a lot of fun trying.

Congratulations, Dan! These are impressive figures. Your energy and drive – and focus – have always been noticeable and enviable. I tend to wander around happily waiting for manna to fall and then stare at it in wonder and admiration. The net result is that after more than 5 years I’m inching towards 100 000 views. Just checked my stats – my 2014 views is down to under 60% of what it was at its best in 2012, although I was surprised to find I published only 18% fewer posts. However I know the quality of my posting has dropped dramatically, with more ‘idle walk and of-the-moment’ pics and less substance.
May 2015 be a wonderful and fulfilling year for you both! Jack
Hi Jack. I hope 2015 is good for you and finally sees you on the move to pastures new. If it’s encouraging in any way, I dont find it that easy to keep focussed and I worry all the time about the quality of my posts. I am perpetually in a rush so would love a little more time to craft my blog. But in any respect a blog is a personal thing so it doesn’t matter as long as you get enjoyment and satisfaction from it. Personally, I enjoy your posts and pictures …. and that you are always writing about something in the garden that’s 6 months away for us! Dan
I hope I add to your goal of 1,000, 000 views. You really do have a wonderful blog with some interesting adventures and useful garden posts. I myself like to travel and enjoy nature, but seeing the photo of Everest is just beautiful and well beyond a place I will ever get to.
That is such a special image for me as I had always wanted to visit Bhutan. The flight there was like something from an illustrated atlas, including a running commentary on the mountains we were passing from the pilot. I hope to do it again some day!
