Venturing out of the terrace doors this morning I am hit, full frontal, by the scent of Christmas Box, Sarcococca ruscifolia. The fragrance coming from the feathery white flowers is sweet, honeyed, almost sickly. Just one tiny sprig in the kitchen is filling the house with its delicious scent as I write this post. Unassuming and tolerant of difficult conditions, Sarcococca ruscifolia is a superb winter-flowering shrub for gardens large or small.

Gorgeous, I love the scents of winter plants especially Sarcococca.
They are all the more wonderful for appearing at the lowest point of the gardening calendar aren’t they?
Something like a jasmin? We are not that lucky to have this one here.
They are related to box and quite hardy so might be worth tracking down? My little 6 inch sprig is still smelling wonderful in a vase on the kitchen counter.

I second the notion of fragrant blogs. I have a couple of these in full bloom now and they’re just wonderful, especially the one by the front door. Wow…!
