In honour of Him Indoors’ birthday we’ve had a lovely long weekend in northern England. We managed to squeeze in five completely different gardens – Durham University Botanic Garden, Wallington and Herterton in Northumberland, The Valley Gardens in Harrogate and finally RHS Harlow Carr. More on these coming very soon.
All shared one thing in common – they were ablaze with high summer flowers. Each wove their own bright tapestry of asters, crocosmias, eryngiums, monardas, campanulas and veronicas. Abundant growth brought on by a wet spring followed by a warm July is delivering us summer displays of the greatest exuberance, making it a vintage summer for herbaceous borders everywhere.

So colourful!
Thank you. Need to find some time to write all my garden visits up now!
You could leave it for the winter writings 🙂
Happy birthday to H.I.D. but it seems to me it was birthday treat for you!
Ah, you’ve seen through my little ruse! I did, in fairness, spend the weekend with the family, so I was entitled to a bit of payback.
Ok, I believe you! Any sign of Lyon flowers yet?
Sadly not. Maybe next year!
