What everyone expects from Chelsea is massed displays of single flower types. Be it alliums, sweet peas, delphiniums or chrysanthemums, banks of mint-condition blooms are never in short supply in the show’s great pavillion. Love them or hate them (and the slugs and snails love them) these lupins from Westcountry Nurseries are what Chelsea is all about – horticultural perfection.
We have a Lupine Festival in the northern part of our state each June. Instead of your beautiful array of colors, there are fields of purple Lupines as far as you can see. Variety of colors or one color – they are still beautiful.

That must be quite a picture. They occasionally go native here if they’re given a chance. I have some friends that have them growing in a wildflower meadow and they look very pretty.

Very beautiful, but maybe a bit too perfect looking?

Certainly. Best admired at shows, but a bit too formal and pristine for real gardens.
