Much excitement at Chelsea as I came face to face with a brand new Fritillaria named ‘Garland Star’. Regular followers will know I’ve pledged allegiance to ‘William Rex‘, but I may be persuaded to have a treasonous dalliance with a commoner next spring. ‘Garland Star’ is without pronounced smoky purple flashes on its bells, but the allure of a strong looking bulb with copious tangerine flowers may be hard to resist! I don’t have a lot of orange in my beds, but this is a striking specimen.
I think orange is a good flower colour, so long as there’s plenty of green, silver or copper foliage around to calm it down a little.
