Pretty in Pink

In spite of the biting wind, these fragile pink blossoms of Prunus and Camellia put on a brave show this weekend at Goodnestone Park, Kent. Surely spring can only be days away now?

I know the excitement here after a shorter and less bleak winter; I can only imagine it there…

Wonderful photos – pretty enough to frame. Thank you as we are deep into mud season here in NH.

Hmmm, think I’d rather have snow than mud! So the big thaw has begun?

[…] On the fringes of the grass garden, a grove of ornamental flowering plum trees sparkled, their bright pink flowers dazzling against the leafless grey of the woods behind . I hope one day to go to Japan to see the legendary cherry blossom, but these trees show that the same magic can be achieved closer to home.  See more in this gallery. […]

I have been searching and searching for a good photo of a Japanese Plum to compare to the photo of a tree I took the other day but couldn’t identify. I think it could be a Japanese Plum but I’m just not sure. It’s blooming right now (winter weather), with no leaves on the tree in South Louisiana. This little tree is just so beautiful. I must find out what it is so I can buy some for my yard. Your photos are lovely btw!

Hi, I'm Dan Cooper, otherwise known as The Frustrated Gardener. Thank you for visiting my blog. I have loved plants and flowers since I was a child. My family tell me the first word I spoke was ‘Mesembryanthemum’, although that takes some believing. I grew up surrounded by gifted gardeners, eventually reading Landscape Management at the University of Reading. I now work in retail. The Frustrated Gardener is my way of expressing an all-consuming passion for plants and flowers, and a motivation to carry on exploring the wonders of nature.

I garden in Broadstairs, Kent, in a small plot by the sea. My specialist subject is coastal gardening, especially in mild, frost-free locations. I have a particular interest in plants from the Canary Islands and South Africa, and I will collect anything, given half a chance. I am also an avid book collector, with a growing collection housed in a custom-built library.

Why am I frustrated? Where shall I begin!? It’s mainly because the postage stamp space I have at my disposal constrains my poster-sized ambitions. I know I am not alone. Join me on my quest to make the most out of my small town garden and we’ll learn together along the way.
